{Group of Chiñipilcos [?}]

The instruments in this photograph are a kind of pinquillo that is most commonly called “tokoro.” It is primarily used in the dance called Qhaswa de San Sebastian in the carnaval of the city of Juliaca. There are a couple of different local cowboy-type characters portrayed by dancers, depending on the group. Based on the costumes and the fact that there are two differently-painted instruments visible, the assumption is that this is a group of Chiñipilcos with an older style of costume than the ones used today.
