Jothi Studio, Tindivanam

This collection contains the complete photographic archive of Jothi Studio which was opened in 1957 on Ayudha Pooja Day in September in Tindivanam town by P.Krishnayya. The photographic material includes glass plates- cabinet sized (12X10 inches), film negatives of different sizes: 2B, 120 and prints. The photographic material is dated from 1957. The original location of each image is reflected in each digital file name. The founder of Jothi studio is "Mr. P.Krishnayya", 81 years old. He was from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh later came and settled in Tindivanam. He was able to provide few additional information for some images regarding personal names, locations and dates which are included. He started his career as a makeup man for drama artists, then learnt photography from his uncle Venu Mudhaliyar. Started photography career using Field Camera with F8 lens. He used to take photos for the Electricity, revenue and police department. He has collections in postmortem photography. This collection contains 3 series, negatives, glass plates and prints 2017 images: 809 Negatives of studio portrait, 523 negatives of indoor portrait, 626 negatives of outdoor portraits,51 prints of studio, indoor nad outdoor portraits and 8 glass plates of outdoor portraits.

Custodial history: The material was held by P.Krishnaya, owner of Jothi Studio. Presently the material is kept with him.
