The extensive compilation known as the Collected Works of Pema Karpo, or Kuenkhyen Kabum, covers a diverse array of subjects, including philosophical commentaries, ritual manuals, astrological treatises, eulogies, and personal notes. This particular collection of Pema Karpo's writings is presented in a block print version originating from the Punakha woodblock, specifically identified as the older version of the Punakha block print. The intricate carving of this woodblock was carried out under the patronage of Jigme Singey, the 18th Desi of Bhutan, between 1776 and 1780. Unfortunately, this historically significant woodblock met its demise in a fire. Following the loss of the initial woodblock due to fire, a subsequent woodblock for the Collected Works of Pema Karpo was meticulously crafted under the sponsorship of Choki Gyaltshen, the 20th Desi of Bhutan, between 1797 and 1803. However, this second woodblock also faced the unfortunate fate of being consumed by fire. Consequently, both versions of the Collected Works of Pema Karpo in the Punakha Blockprints have evolved into rare treasures in Bhutan. This collection is prominently displayed on the traditional bookshelves within the Drubthob Lhakhang of the Dzong fortress. It is meticulously protected, wrapped in a cloth, and shielded by two wooden boards securely fastened with a belt.
