བཀའ་འགྱུར་གྱི་ཏོག་

This series showcases the opening pages of the Kanjur, one of the most significant canonical scriptures in Tibetan Buddhism. The Kanjur, a revered compilation of the Buddha’s teachings, holds a central position in the Buddhist canon. At Yonphu Lhakhang, a xylographic print set of the Kanjur, created from the renowned Narthang woodblocks, is carefully preserved. The initial pages (tog) of each volume are especially notable, adorned with exquisite gold ink on dark blue paper. Safeguarded as sacred relics, the Yonphu Lhakhang Kanjur is meticulously stored within the temple. Each volume is housed on traditional bookshelves, wrapped in layers of cloth, and secured between two wooden boards fastened with string. These protective measures reflect the profound reverence and dedicated care accorded to this spiritual treasure. Unfortunately, several sections and volumes of the Kanjur are missing, adding to the collection’s historical fragility.

Extent: 9 volumes of manuscripts.
