The rGyud, or tantric section of the Kanjur, encompasses a rich collection of tantric texts attributed to the historical Buddha or other manifestations of the Buddha. These texts explore esoteric practices such as yoga, deity visualization, mantras, mudra gestures and postures, mandalas, and meditation, forming an integral part of syncretic tantric traditions. Presented in 18 volumes, the rGyud is written in a loose poti format, meticulously inscribed in uchen script using black ink on cream-colored Bhutanese handmade paper. Each volume begins with a striking first page written in gold ink on dark blue paper, adorned with two miniature depictions of the Buddha along the margins. These artistic elements reflect the dedication and craftsmanship behind its creation. Notably, the final volume of the tantra section includes a two-page narrative account of the Kanjur’s creation. Preserved as a sacred relic, the collection is carefully housed on traditional bookshelves within the temple. It is meticulously wrapped in multiple layers of cloth and protected by two wooden boards, securely fastened with a belt, ensuring its preservation and reverence for generations to come.
Extent: 18 volumes of manuscripts.
