This series features the opening pages of the Kanjur, one of the primary canonical scriptures in Tibetan Buddhism. The Kanjur, a revered compilation of the Buddha’s profound teachings, holds an esteemed place in the Buddhist canon. As previously mentioned, Yongla Gonpa preserves a xylographic print Kanjur set, produced from the renowned Narthang woodblocks. The opening pages (tog) of each volume are uniquely adorned with gold ink on dark blue paper and include illustrations of the Buddha, further enhancing their sacred significance. Carefully preserved as sacred relics, the Yongla Gonpa Kanjur is stored within the temple’s traditional almirah cabinets. Each volume is wrapped in multiple layers of cloth and protected between two wooden boards, securely fastened with string. These meticulous protective measures reflect the profound reverence and care devoted to safeguarding this spiritual treasure.
