བཀའ་འགྱུར་གྱི་ཏོག་

This particular series contains the opening pages of the Kanjur. The Kanjur, a compilation of the profound teachings of the Buddha, holds a distinguished position as one of the primary canonical scriptures in Tibetan Buddhism. Akin to other temples in Bhutan, Yangthang Gonpa also houses a set of Kanjur, but it is a xylographic print, printed from the Narthang woodblock. However, the initial page, or "tog," of all volumes is uniquely written with gold ink on dark blue paper. Preserved as sacred relics, the Yangthang Gonpa Kanjur finds its sanctuary within the temple. Positioned on traditional bookshelves, it is carefully wrapped in layers of cloth and shielded by two wooden boards, securely fastened with a string. These protective measures symbolize the reverence and meticulous care accorded to this spiritual treasure.

Extent: 12 volumes of manuscripts.

Arrangement: In this series, I've adhered to the structure of the Narthang Kanjur system, prioritizing the Vinaya followed by the Prajnaparamita section, which further divides into One Hundred Thousand Lines, Twenty Five Thousand Lines, Eighteen Thousand Lines, Ten Thousand Lines, Eight Thousand Lines, and Miscellaneous collection. Next in sequence are the Ratnakutta, Buddha Avatamsaka, General Sutra, and Parinirvana Sutra sections, concluding with a collection of Tantra texts.

Author(s)/Creator(s): As indicated in the description, this is a xylographic print from the Narthang woodblock. However, the individual who transported it from Tibet to Bhutan remains unknown. Additionally, information regarding the creator of the opening pages is currently unavailable.
