BURCHARD OF MOUNT SION was a German, a native either of Strasburg or of Magdeburg, and lived in the thirteenth century. He became a monk of the Dominican Order, and went to the East in 1232. Here he visited Egypt, Syria, and what was then called Armenia, being the ancient kingdom of Cilicia.He is said to have passed ten years at the monastery of Mount Sion at Jerusalem, and did not return to Europe till late in life.
