Kathāvatthu (Subjects of discussion) is the fifth book of the Abhidhamma. The statement of the opinions of controversy occurred among the various schools during the third Great Assemble. Some of the content is written in Pali and some in Lao tells the principles or useful words which are for refining the passion, cessation of suffering, boredom, peacefulness, enlightenment and Nirvana. Colophon: Folio 44 on the recto side: Sisumangkhala Sangkat (CS) 1292, a kot sanga year, on the fifteenth day of the waxing moon of the seventh lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Rattanapannya sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Kathavatthu (Kathāvatthu) to dedicate to my mother named Sao La and my father named Nai (Mr) Küm, to Sao Òn and Aunt Nòi and to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and cut the five obstructions off and reach Nirvana as my wishes.
