Sonakutikanna Thera was the son of a Buddhist woman named Kali in Rajagaha. At that time, Maha Kaccayana Thera lived on a mountain called Pavatta. Mrs. Kali, mother of Sonakutikanna took care of the Venerable. When Sonakutikana grew up, he listened to the sermon of Maha Kaccayana Thera and became faithful, so he asked for the ordination as a monk. Maha Kaccayana Thera ordained him as a novice first. Three years later, the Venerable ordained him as a monk. After his ordination, Sonakutikanna Monk studied meditation from his preceptor. He had the great perseverance in the meditation practices. Not long, he attained arahantship. Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkat thousand hundred 96 (corresponding with CS 1196), a kap sanga year, the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of thiang vang (between 10.30-12.00 o’clock). Sathu Maha Phutthavongsa Viriyapannya from Vat Phonsaiyaramathipadi had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Thammabot, to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May my wishes come true. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
