In a previous extence, the Bodhisatta was born as the royal son of the king of Sipi kingdom. The Bodhisatta had an elephant as a companion. At that time, Kalingkarat kingdom, which was a neighboring city, suffered from a drought and lack of seasonal rain. People were starved and suffer from fever and sickness. When they were more suffering, they went to ask the King of Kalingkalat for help. But the king could not make the rain fall. So, the king gave his order to the Brahmins to go and ask the Bodhisatta's elephants to come to Kalingkarat. It would surely rain. When the brahmins went to ask for the elephant from the Bodhisattva, the Bodhisattva gave his auspicious elephant to the brahmins. Colophon: Folio 25 on the recto side: Sangkat thousand hundred 96 (corresponding with CS 1196), a kap sanga year, the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of thiang vang (between 10.30-12.00 o’clock). Sathu Maha Phutthavongsa Viriyapannya from Vat Phonsaiyaramathipadi had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Thammabot, to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May my wishes come true. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
