Vinaya text on the causes of the laying down of the training rules. After the Buddha’s enlightenment, the Buddha declared and propagated his teachings for years. However, the Buddha did not lay down any rules for his disciples. In the first phase, the Buddha advised his disciples to follow the holy life for the happiness of the public. Later on, there were groups of naughty monks who did not follow the Buddha’s teachings. Their behaviors were improper. They were condemned and blamed by villagers. They were bad examples. Then the Buddha started to lay down the rules from time to time by following the causes happened. The seven types of the rules consist of 4 parajika, 13 sanghadisesa, 2 aniyata, 30 pacittiya, 92 pacittiya, 75 sekhiya, 4 patidesaniya, and 7 adikarana samatha in a total of 277 items.
