The story of Sukara Peta (a pig ghost). Once, while Venerable Maha Moggallana was walking down from Gridhrakuta Hill with Venerable Lakkhana for the alms-round in Rajagaha, he saw a peta. He smiled but said nothing. When Venerable Lakkhana asked about the reason for the smile, Venerable Maha Moggallana said, "Don't ask now, ask when we are at the present of the Buddha." When they were at the residence of the Buddha, Venerable Maha Moggallana told Venerable Lakkhana that he was smiling because he saw a ghost with the shape of human being with six thousand feet tall but with a pig's head and a tail coming out of his mouth. The Buddha said that he had seen this same ghost as well on the day he attained enlightenment. Then the Buddha told the former deed of the ghost. Colophons: (1) Folio 10 on the verso side: Chan (ex-monk) Suk from Luang Prabang is the scribe. (2) Folio 11 on the recto side: Buddhist Era two thousand 5 hundred and 12 (corresponding with BE 2512), a raka year (Year of the Chicken), the eighth day of the waning moon, a Monday. Naikhu (teacher) Tan and his wife Nang Buakham from the village of Sangkhalok sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Vibak Phet (Consequence of the ghosts), the fourth episode. May the results of this merit support our mother who already passed away, may she rejoice with this merit. May the results of this merit support us and our three children to reach the three states of happiness with Nibbāna as our residence.
