The manuscript contains the text of Pubba Sikkha (First study) which is the commentary of Vinaya on Apatti (offences) of monks. The offences mean penalties arising from violating the precepts or prohibitions of a bhikkhu. There are 7 types, namely, Pārājika, Saṅghādisesa, Thullaccaya, Pācittiya, Pāṭidesanīya, Dukkata, and Dubbāsita. The penalties are divided into three levels: 1. Heavy punishment is called garudosa, causing the monk to be penalized from being a monk, i.e. the Pārājika, which is called the garukāpatti, 2. The central punishment, called the majjhima, which causes the monk who has been punished, to remain in parivāsa (probation) before he can be released, such as the Saṅghādisesa, and 3. Light punishment is called lahudosa, causing the monk to confess the offences, that is, to report his own. Colophon: Folio 22 on the recto and verso sides: Chunlasakkarat 1286, a kap chai year, the second day of the waning moon of the twelfth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), a kot si day. The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30 – 9.00 o’clock). Mah Rasakhru Puppha Panya from Vat Mai had the ardent religious faith in the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to sponsor the making of the manuscript entitled Puppha Sikkhā which is the translation of Vinaya in order to teach monks and novices to take consideration into and know the heaviness and lightness of the tradition within the Sangha community. When I am close to die and to leave the human world, even if I set up my mind in a wrong way and I go to any of the four states of misery and become a hungry ghost, or a spirit, or I am stuck in any places, may the results of this merit support me and move me to a good place. Even if I am already in a good place, may this merit support me to get more heavenly properties with hundred times and thousand times definitely. Amen, amen! May this alms given be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna.
