ນິທານທໍາມະບົດ ເລື່ອງ ອະຫິເຜດ. ຄັ້ງໜຶ່ງ ພະໂມກຄັນລານະແລະພະລັກຂະນະ ລົງຈາກພູເຂົາກິດຊະກູດ ເພື່ອໄປບິນທະບາດໃນເມືອງຣາຊະຄຶ ພະໂມກຄັນລານະເຫັນເຜດຕົນໜຶ່ງ ຈຶ່ງຍິ້ມອອກມາແຕ່ບໍ່ເວົ້າຫຍັງ ເມື່ອໄປເຖິງວັດເວລຸວັນ ພະໂມກຄັນລານະຈຶ່ງບອກແກ່ພະລັກຂະນະວ່າ ທີ່ທ່ານຍິ້ມນັ້ນ ເພາະທ່ານເຫັນເຜດຕົນໜຶ່ງທີ່ມີຫົວເປັນຄົນແຕ່ຕົວເປັນງູ. ພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າໄດ້ຕັດວ່າ ພະອົງກໍ່ເຄີຍເຫັນເຜດຕົນນີ້ໃນວັນທີ່ຊົງບັນລຸພະສໍາມາສໍາໂພທິຍານເໝືອນກັນ. ຈາກນັ້ນ ພະພຸດທະອົງຈຶ່ງເລົ່າບຸບພະກໍ່າຂອງເຜດຕົນນັ້ນວ່າ ກາລະຄັ້ງໜຶ່ງນານມາແລ້ວ ມີຊາວນາຄົນໜຶ່ງໄດ້ເຜົາສາລາພະປັດເຈກກະພຸດທະເຈົ້າຕົນໜຶ່ງຜູ້ເປັນທີ່ເຄົາລົບນັບຖືຂອງຄົນທັງຫຼາຍ ເພາະເຂົາຢ້ານວ່າ ເຂົ້າກ້າໃນນາຂອງຕົນຈະເສຍຫາຍ ຍ້ອນປະຊາຊົນຍ່າງໄປຫາພະປັດເຈກນັ້ນ. ພະປັດເຈກຈໍາເປັນຕ້ອງໜີໄປຢູ່ທີ່ອື່ນ. ລູກສິດຂອງພະປັດເຈກກໍ່ໂກດແຄ້ນ ພາກັນທຸບຕີຊາວນາຄົນນັ້ນຈົນຕາຍ. ເມື່ອຕາຍແລ້ວກໍ່ໄປເກີດໃນອະເວຈີມະຫານະຮົກ. ໃນຊາດນີ້ ເຂົາຕ້ອງມາຊົດໃຊ້ເສດກໍ່າ ເກີດເປັນອະຫິເຜດຕົນນີ້. ຄໍາລົງທ້າຍ: ລານທີ່ ໑໘ ໜ້າ ໑: ພຸດທະສັງກາດແລ້ວ ໒໕໐໔ ຕົວ ປີ ຮ້ວງເປົ້າ ເດືອນ ໙ ລົງ ໙ ຄໍ່າ ວັນຈັນບ່າຍ ໔ ໂມງແລງ ຣິດຈະນາແລ້ວ ຂະນ້ອຍຈານສຸກໄດ້ຂຽນ ທໍາມະປັດທະ ຜູກ ໑໑ ມັດ ໑໓ ຖວາຍພະອົງສົມເດັດພະສັງຄະຣາດພຸດທະສິໂນຣົດສະກົນມະຫາສັງຄະປາໂມກຂະທໍາມະຍານະມະຫາເຖຣະ ອົງເປັນປິດຕາ ມີສັດທາລານປະທານໃຫ້ຂະນ້ອຍຣິດຈະນານໍາຖວາຍ ຂະນ້ອຍຂໍກຸສົນສ່ວນນີ້ຈົ່ງດົນບັນດານໃຫ້ຂະນ້ອຍໄດ້[ພົບ]ພະອົງສີອະຣິຍາເມດໄຕຍະຕົນຈະລົງມາອຸບັດໃນຂ້າງໜ້ານີ້ ຂໍໃຫ້ຂະນ້ອຍໄດ້ພົບພະສາສະໜາທຸກຊາດ ຂໍໃຫ້ສະຫລາດຮູ້ພະໄຕຍະປີດົກ ຂໍໃຫ້ຂະນ້ອຍໄດ້ເວັ້ນຈາກໃຈທີ່ເປັນອະກຸສົນ ຂໍໃຫ້ເວັ້ນຈາກອຸປະສັກ ຄື ການຂັດການຂ້ອງ ຄື ໄຮ້ຊັບອັບປັນຍາເໝືອນດັ່ງໃນຊາດນີ້ ຂໍຢ່າໄດ້ມີ ຂໍໃຫ້ຂະນ້ອຍໄດ້ພົບທວຍຄ້າແລເສດຖີ ມີສະຫວັນເປັນທີ່ຢູ່[ທຸກ]ຊາດ ຕາບຕໍ່ເທົ້າເຂົ້າສູ່ນີຣະພານກໍຂ້າເທີ້ນ. ນິບພານັງ ປະຣະມັງ ສຸກຂັງ.

The Dhammapada story of Ahipeta. On one occasion, while Venerable Maha Moggallana was walking down from Gridhrakuta Hill with Venerable Lakkhana for the alms-round in Rajagaha, he saw a peta. He smiled but said nothing. When they were at the Velavan monastery, Venerable Moggallana told Venerable Lakkhana that he smiled because he saw a peta-ghost with the head of a human being and the body of a snake. The Buddha then said that he himself had seen that very peta-ghost on the day he attained enlightenment. The Buddha then related the bad deeds of the previous life of the peta. A very long time ago, a farmer set fire on the abode of a private Buddha who was respected by people. As he was feared that his field would be damaged by too many people going to and from the monastery. Consequently, the paccekabuddha had to move to some other place. The disciples of the paccekabuddha, being very angry with the farmer, beat him and killed him. On his death he was reborn in Avici Niraya. In his present existence, he was serving out the remaining term of the evil consequences (kamma) as this Ahipeta. Colophon: Folio 18 on the recto side: Buddhist Era 2504 a huang pao year, the ninth day of the waning moon of the ninth lunar month, a Monday. The writing was accomplished at 4 p.m. I am Chan (ex-monk) Suk inscribed this manuscript entitled Dhammapada, fascicle 11, bundle 13 for the Supreme Patriarch Buddhasinorot Sakonmaha Sangkha Pamokkha Dhammayana Maha Thera who is my father. He gave me the palm leaves for scribing and offered it to him. I wish for the results of this merit to support me to meet Pha Si Ariya Metteyya who will come in the future. May I meet the Teachings of the Buddha in every existence. May I excel in the three baskets. May my mind be free from unwholesome. May I be free from any obstrugles, poverty, and fool like this existence. May I become a merchant and millionaire and have a resident in heaven in every existence to last until I enter Nibbāna. Nibbāna is the greatest bliss.
