ເນື້ອໃນກ່າວເຖິງ ໃນສະໄໝໜຶ່ງ ເມື່ອພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າປະທັບຢູ່ກຸຕາຄານສາລາ ນະປ່າມະຫາວັນ ໃນເມືອງເວສາລີ. ຄັ້ງນັ້ນ ພະພຸດທະອົງໄດ້ຕັດເທດສະໜາທໍາ ເລື່ອງ “ໂພທິປັກຂິຍະທໍາ ໓໗” ແກ່ພິກຂຸທັງຫຼາຍ. ໂພທິປັກຂິຍະທໍາ ຄືຫລັກທໍາທີ່ເກື້ອໜູນແກ່ອະຣິຍະມັກ ມີ 37 ປະກອບດ້ວຍ: ໑. ສະຕິປັດຖານ (ທີ່ຕັ້ງຂອງສະຕິ) ໔, ໒. ສໍາມັບປະທານ (ຄວາມພຽນຊອບ) ໔, ໓. ອິດທິບາດ (ຕູນນະທໍາທີ່ນໍາໄປສູ່ຄວາມສໍາເລັດ) ໔, ໔. ອິນຊີ (ທໍາທີ່ເປັນໃຫຍ່ໃນກິດຂອງຕົນ) ໕, ໕. ພະລະ (ທໍາອັນເປັນກໍາລັງ) ໕, ໖. ໂພດຊົງ (ທໍາທີ່ເປັນອົງແຫ່ງການຕັດສະຮູ້) ໗ ແລະ ໗. ອັດຖັງຄິກະມັກ (ທາງມີອົງແປດປະການອັນປະເສີດ) 8. ຄໍາລົງທ້າຍ: (໑) ລານທີ່ ໑ ໜ້າ ໑: ສັງກາດ ໑໒໐໔ ຕົວ ປີເຕົ່າຍີ່ ເດືອນ ໘ ຂຶ້ນ ໘ ຄໍ່າ ພໍ່າວ່າໄດ້ ວັນ ໖ ລິດຈະນາແລ້ວຍາມແຖໃກ້ທ່ຽງ ເຈົ້າຫົວ ສູວັນນະໄມຕີ ມີໃຈໃສສັດທາເປັນອັນຍິ່ງຈິ່ງສ້າງໜັງສື ສຽວສະຫວາດ ໄວ້ກັບໂລກໂລກາ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄດ້ດັ່ງຄໍາມັກຄໍາປາດຖະໜາ ຊູ່ເຍື່ອງ ຊູ່ປະການ ກໍຂ້າເທີ້ນ. (໒) ລານທີ່ ໒໕ ໜ້າ ໑: ຈຸຣະສັງກາດຣາຊະໄດ້ ໑໒໐໖ ຕົວ ປີຮັບໃສ້ ເດືອນ ຍີ່ ອອກໃໝ່ ໕ ຄໍ່າ ວັນ ໕ ມື້ຮ້ວງເໝົ້າ ຣິດຈະນາແລ້ວຕູດຕັ້ງມື້ເຊົ້າ ໝາຍມີ ໄດ້ສ້າງໜັງສື ເຖຣີຄາຖາ ໄປຫາສາທຸ ຂໍໃຫ້ໄດ້ດັ່ງຄໍາມັກຄໍາປາດຖະໜາ ທຸກເຍື່ອງທຸກປະການກໍຂ້າເທີ້ນ. ນິບພານັງ ປະຣະມັງ ສຸກຂັງ ທຸວັງ ຕາບຕໍ່ເທົ້າ ໕ ພັນວັດສາ. ນິບພານະ ປັດຈະໂຍ ໂຫນຕຸ ໂນ. (໓) ລານທີ່ ໒໖ ໜ້າ ໑-໒: ສັງກາດຣາຊະໄດ້ ໑໒໐໕ ຕົວ ປີກາເໝົ້າ ເດືອນຈຽງ ແຮມ ໑໓ ຄໍ່າ ພໍ່າວ່າໄດ້ວັນ ໓ ມື້ເມິ່ງເໝົ້າ ຣິດຈະນາແລ້ວຍາມກອງງາຍ ຜູ້ຂ້າສຸວັນນະໄມຕີກັບທັງພະລິຍາບຸດຕານັດຕາ ພັນທຸວົງສາມີໃຈໃສສັດທາເປັນອັນຍິ່ງຈິ່ງພ້ອມກັນສ້າງຂຽນ ໂພທິປັກຂິຍະທໍາ ໄວ້ກັບວໍຣະພຸດທະສາສະໜາຕາບຕໍ່ເທົ້າ ໕໐໐໐ ພະວັດສາ. ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າທັງຫລາຍມີສະຕິປັນຍາເປັນດັ່ງເຈົ້າມະໂຫສົດ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າມີໃຈອົດໃຈພຽນສິ່ງເຈົ້າເຕເມຣາດ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າມີໃຈສະຫລາດຮູ້ຍັງໄຕຍະພິດົກ ໘ ໝື່ນ ໔ ພັນຂັນ ເໝືອນເຈົ້າມະຫາສາຣິບຸດ ຜູ້ຂ້າຍັງທົ່ວລະວັດຜັດໄປມາໃນວັດຕະສົງສານ ຍັງບໍ່ໄດ້ເຂົ້າສູ່ນິບພານ ຂໍຢ່າໄດ້ໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄດ້ໄປເກີດຣັກຂະນະ ໘ ແຫ່ງ ຢ່າໄດ້ໃຫ້ແຕ່ງຕົນໄປ ຄືວ່າ ອະຣູບປະເຊົາ ອະສັນຍີເຊົາ ປະຈັນຕະເຊົາ ວິກະລັງໂຄ ມິດສະທິຕຖິ ຕິຣະສາໂນ ວິຣິໂຍເປໂຕ ອັນສົກ(ໂສກ)ເສົ້າ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄປເກີດລັກຂະນະອັນຖ້ວນ ໙ ເປັນທີ່ໂພທິສັດເຈົ້າສ້າງໂພທິສົມພານ ສຸກສໍາຣານສຸດຍິ່ງ ເຖິງນັກຄະລະເມືອງແກ້ວ ຄືວ່າ ນິບພານ ຜູ້ຂ້າເກີດມາພາວະຊາດຕິອັນໃດ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄດ້ເກີດຮົ່ມພຸດທະບາດສາສະໜາພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄດ້ບວດຊູ່ຊາດ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້ຂ້າໄດ້ທະລົງໄຕຍະປິຜະກະທັງ ໓ ທໍາມະ ໘ ໝື່ນ ໔ ຂັນ ຂໍຈົ່ງໃຫ້ມາຕັ້ງຢູ່ໃນທາດໃນຂັນແຫ່ງຜູ້ ຂໍໃຫ້ຜູ້[ຂ້າ]ໄດ້ເຖິງອະຣະຫັນຕະມັຄຄະຍານ ເຂົ້າສຸນິບພານພ້ອມພະອະຣິຍະມິໄຕເຈົ້າ ກໍຂ້າເທີ້ນ ນິບພານັງ ປະຣະມັງ ສຸຂັງ.
The text tells on one occasion while the Buddha was dwelling at the Kutakham Sala, Mahavan forest in Vesali. The Buddha gave a sermon to monk on the Bodhipakkhiya-dhamma. The Bodhipakkhiya-dhamma is the virtues partaking of enlightenment consists of 37 items including: 1. Satipaṭṭhāna (foundations of mindfulness) 4, 2. Sammappadhāna (great efforts) 4, 3. Iddhipāda (part of accomplishment) 4, 4. Indriya (controlling faculty) 5, 5. Bala (power) 5, 6. Bojjhaṅga (enlightenment factors) 7, and 7. Aṭṭhaṅgika-magga (the noble eightfold path) 8. Colophons: (1) Folio 1 on the recto side: Sangkat (CS) 1204, a tao nyi year, the eighth day of the waxing moon of the eighth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday). The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of the thae kai thiang (between 9.00–10.30 o’clock). Chao Hua Suvannamaiti had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Siao Savat and left it in the world. May all my wishes and desires become true. (2) Folio 25 on the recto side: Churasangkat (CS) 1206, a hap sai year, the fifth day of the waxing moon of the second lunar month, the fifth day of the week (Thursday). The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the morning (between 6.00–7.30 o’clock). To sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Theri Khatha and dedicate to a monk. May all my wishes and desires become true . Nibbāna is the greatest bliss certainly. To last until the end of 5000 years. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna. (3) Folio 26 on the recto and verso sides: Sangkatrasa (CS) 1205, a ka mao year, the fifth day of the waning moon of the first lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday). The writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of the kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). I am Suvannamaiti and my wife together with all our children, grandchildren and relatives had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Phothipakkhiyatham to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all of us become wise like Mahosot. May I be endurable like Temiya. May I excel in Tipitaka with 84 thousand categories like Venerable Sariputta. While I am travelling in the cycle of rebirth and death, not to enter Nibbāna, may I not be reborn in the eighth places such as arupasao, asannyi sao, pachanta sao, vikalangkho, mitsathitthi, tirasano, viriyopeto which is mournful. May I be reborn in the ninth realm where the Bodhisatta is staying and is the greatest bliss and then reach the crystal city of Nibbāna. In any existences of mine, may I meet with the Teachings of the Buddha. May I be ordained [as a monk] in every existence of mine. May I obtain the Tipitaka with 84 thousand categories and may the teachings stay in my elements. May I obtain the knowledge of worthy one and enter Nibbāna along with Ariya Metteyya definitely. Nibbāna is the greatest bliss.
