On one occasion, the Buddha was staying at the Nigrodharama monastery in Kapilavatthu. At the time, Mahapajapati Gotami, the step-mother and maternal aunt of the Buddha, ordered a weaver man to make a robe with intention to offer it to the Buddha. When the robe was already for offering, she brought the robe to the monastery and offered it to the Buddha. But the Buddha rejected and told her to offer the robe to the Sangha. As the offering to the Sangha will gain much merit than to offer it to the Buddha himself. Colophon: Folio 24 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat (CS) 1252, a kot nyi year, on the fourth day of the waxing moon of the twelfth lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Hua Chao Khamsuk had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Pitaka thang 3, to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May my wishes and desires some true.
