This manuscript tells how the Mataram Sultanate came to be after the Pajang Sultanate fell apart. If focusses on wandering noblemen and thus belongs to the satria lelana genre. Raden Ardjosepoetro apparently copied it from an older manuscript in the early twentieth century. Given the emphasis on Islam in the narrative, the original documents was possibly written after the Islamic turn in Javanese court literature which occurred in the early eighteenth century under the patronage of Ratu Pakubuwana (d. 1732). The word 'left' (kari) in the title refers to the left side in Javanese shadow puppetry which is associated with wicked characters.
