MNT Historical Sites Survey [1986]

Description: In 1986 volunteers from the Montserrat National Trust undertook a survey of many of the historic sites on the island, taking photographs and notes of what they found. The 35mm slides and notes have been kept in the MNT library (evacuated and relocated several times) since then, surviving Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and the volcanic devastation (1995-2010) of more than half of the island. More than 80% of the images are of sites completely buried and destroyed, many of the other sites have deteriorated or disappeared due to neglect or development. These images, though the slides are in poor to unusable condition, represent the most complete record of this aspect of Montserrat's past. Extent and format of original material: 1 typed folder, 301 photographic slides.
