The mDo sde, or Sutra Collection, is a significant section of the Kanjur, encompassing a wide range of teachings, including foundational sutras and Mahayana-focused discourses on cosmology, philosophy, and Bodhisattva ethics. Comprising 37 volumes, the collection is crafted in the traditional loose poti format. The texts are meticulously inscribed in uchen script using black ink on cream-colored Bhutanese handmade paper. The first page of each volume is adorned with gold ink on dark blue paper, featuring two illustrations of Buddha Shakyamuni, gracefully positioned on the left and right margins of the first page of the first volume. Revered as a sacred relic, the mDo sde collection is housed on newly constructed wooden bookshelves within the Dzong fortress. Each volume is carefully wrapped in layers of cloth, secured between two protective wooden boards, and fastened with a belt. This meticulous preservation reflects the profound reverence and care accorded to this sacred collection, ensuring its sanctity and endurance for generations to come.
