The Myang ’das or Mahaparinirvanasutra group of sutras focuses on the Buddha’s final days and delves into profound Mahayana teachings, including concepts such as emptiness, death, Buddha-nature, and enlightenment. This collection is presented in three volumes, each following the traditional poti format. The content is meticulously inscribed in uchen script with black ink on cream-colored Bhutanese handmade paper. Each volume’s first page is particularly striking, written in gold ink on dark blue paper, adorned with two miniature depictions of the Buddha placed gracefully along the margins, reflecting the artistry and devotion poured into its creation. Regarded as a sacred relic, the Myang ’das collection is carefully housed on traditional wooden bookshelves within the temple. Each volume is thoughtfully wrapped in multiple layers of cloth and shielded by two wooden boards, securely fastened with a belt. This careful preservation highlights the deep reverence accorded to the collection, ensuring its sanctity and enduring legacy for generations to come.
Extent: 3 volumes of manuscripts.
