Custodial history: The Ukrainian Secret University in Lviv is an illegal higher education institution that operated in Lviv from 1921 to 1925. It was founded by Ukrainian intellectuals in response to the Polish authorities' ban on Ukrainians' right to higher education. The university was founded on the initiative of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, the Petro Mohyla Ukrainian Scientific Lectures Society, and the Stavropigian Institute in Lviv, as a reaction to the actions of the Polish authorities. The latter was caused by a decision regarding the obligation of students of Lviv University and the Polytechnic to serve in the Polish army. In 1924-1925, there were 58 departments in the three departments of the university. There were 22 departments in the Faculty of Philosophy, 26 in the Faculty of Law, and 10 in the Faculty of Medicine. The duration of study at the Faculty of Philosophy and Law was 4 years, and at the Faculty of Medicine and Polytechnics was 2 years. After two years of study in Lviv, medical and polytechnic students had the opportunity to continue their studies at higher educational institutions in Prague, Vienna, and Gdansk. In 1921, the University Senate was created to manage the affairs of the institution, and its members included Vasyl Shchurat, Myron Korduba (Dean of the Faculty of History), Ivan Krypiakevych, Ivan Rakovsky, Volodymyr Verhanovsky (Dean of the Faculty of Law), M. Levytskyi, Roman Kovshevych, Ivan Kurovets (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), and Maksym Muzyka. The documents of the fund of the Ukrainian University in Lviv (June 24, 1903 - March 10, 1927) were transferred in February 1947 from the branch of the library of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR to the Central State Historical Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv (current name - Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine, Kyiv). In accordance with the order of the head of the department of acquisition of the Archival Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Kyiv in August 1949, the fund was sent for storage to the State Archive of the Lviv Region and registered on August 15, 1949 with the assignment of No. 241 с/720. The fund arrived at the Central State Historical Archive of Ukraine in Lviv as a result of delimitation in 1951 as part of 44 funds by the act of March 5, 1951. No. 2 and received No. 310. In 1958, the documents of the fund were described in a short cycle. In 1970, 1974 and 1992, a scientific and technical study of the fund description was carried out.
