His father, Chinaiya Thankavel, a physician and Annaviyar, was also the younger brother of poet Thimilaitheepan from the Thimilai Island of Batticaloa. Their family has been involved in medicine and art for generations. He said that he still had a collection of manuscripts with him, and as they were now with another person, he would get them.
