"Punta Lara, Balneario [1930s-1950s]"

Description: In Punta Lara exists a palace that seems to be cursed. Luis Castells who imagined it committed suicide; however, his son built it in 1910 only to end in bankruptcy. The millionaire Francisco Piria bought in the 1920s to turn it into a luxurious hotel. It became a summer camp for orphans until its decay became inevitable for lack of care. To-day this palace built in Carrara marble amidst a garden of fountains is probably going to be demolished. This envelope will certainly add to the few documents that exist on the palace and its various fates. Extent and format of original material: This envelope contains information on the summer camp in Punta Lara. The material consists of selected pages from a book or magazine titled Obras públicas privadas (Private and Public Works) with images of the resort, a typewritten document, an announcement by the Ministery de Hacienda de la Nación due to local floods, and approximately 100 photos.
