On one occasion, the Buddha was staying at the Jetavana monastery in Savatthi. At the time, Venerable Mahamoggalana traveled to hell and saw the hell creatures suffering, starving and crying. When they saw theVenerable, they asked him where he comes from. The Venerable replied that I come from the world. The hell creatures then left their messages to the Venerable to tell their relatives to make merit and give alms and dedicate the results of the merit to them. When the Venerable returned the human world, he went to the presence of the Buddha and reported the Buddha about what he had seen. The Venerable also told the news to the relatives of those hell creatures. Colophon: Folio 23 on the recto side: Buddhist Era 1289 (possibility is CS 1289), a moeng mao year, on the thirteenth day of the waxing moon of the eleventh lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng thiang (between 10.30–12.00 o'clock). The initiator, Rattanapannya sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Mokkhalā (Moggallana) to dedicate to Xiang Man who already died to the other world. May the results of this merit move him to a good place; and to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and cut the five obstructions off and reach Nirvana as my wishes. Arahantī homi (May I obtain Arahantship). Arahantī homi nibbāna paccayo honto no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ (May I obtain Arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly).
