Once upon a time, King Brahmadata ruled the kingdom of Varanasi. He had his queen named Vimunladevi who was head of sixty thousand women. The queen had seven sons. The last son was the Bodhisatta named Setatha (Jetada). When the sons grew up, the king sent them for studies of various arts. After having finished their studies, the six princes returned the city. The king appointed the eldest brother to be his viceroy and the other five to be great chieves in Varanasi. As for the last one, the king did not raise his position, so he stayed in the palace. Every day, the king invited the private Buddha to receive food in the royal palace. So that, Prince Setatha was familiar with giving alms and that made him faithful. So he asked the king to ardain as an ascetic, but his father did not allow him to become ordained.
