Kusa Jataka tells the story of King Kusa. When the Bodhisatta was born as King Kusa, the ruler of Kusavati kingdom. He had his queen named Pabhavati. He was the son of King Okaka and Queen Silavati. He had his younger brother named Jaya Kumara. He was a wise man who knew all the arts and sciences but had a terrible appearance. When the Bodhisatta was 16 years old, the father gave him the throne and held a weeding ceremony for him with Princes Pabhavati, the daughter of King Madda of Sakara kingdom. Both of them had never seen each other during the day and only saw each other at night. One day, Queen Pabhavati saw King Kusa in the daytime in a hideous form of King Kusa, she couldn’t accept. She thus fled away to her own kingdom. King Kusa, who was fascinated by the appearance of his queen, went out to find her and was suffering in various ways. In the end, with his blessings and with the help of Indra, King Kusa took his queen back and his appearance became smart with the power of the gem given by Indra.
