The content tells about the Buddha told the monks to study and recite the protecting verse called Ātānātiya. On one occasion, the Buddha was present at Gijjhakuta hill, the four heavenly kings came to the presence of the Buddha and addressed the Buddha that, “most of the giants did not obey the Buddha because the Buddha had taught the observance of the five precepts, which most giants did not follow. The refrains from the Buddha did not dear and not amuse those giants and some of the Buddha’s disciples like to live in the forest. Some noble giants who did not respect the words of the Buddha lived in the forest. May the Buddha learn the protection called Ātānātiya for those giants to respect, safeguard, protect, and not encroach on for the peaceful living of lay men, lay women, monks and female monks. Colophons: (1) Folio 31 on the recto side: Dear big and small girls, my hand was rough as learned to write just this one manuscript-bundle. Dear big and small widows. (2) Folio 32 on the recto side: Sangkatrasa (CS) 1272, a huang khai year, on the sixth day of the waning moon of the sixth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Ong Somdet pha pen chao bòrommasetthā mahāphattiya suriya pharasavongsā mahāchakkaphattiya phuminthalinthòn bòvòn thammika rāsāthirāsachao sisattanākhanahut uttamabūri lān xāng hom khao mahānakkhala rāsathāni Sisavang Vong and his queen, mother, sons and daughters jointly had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Sapphanavan (Sabbanavāna), to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May we prosper with greatest bliss as all our wishes. Nibbāna is the greatest bliss, certainly.
