The Buddha delivered this Nibbāna Sutta to his followers while staying at the Jetavanna Monastery in Savatthi. The content describes about the making of merit including alms-giving, observing precepts, listening to Dhamma preaching, and meditating. In there, the observing precepts are the initial way to enter Nirvana. Only giving alms but not observing precepts, after death, can be born as a ghost like the story of a couple millionaires. The result of sponsoring the making of, or writing this manuscript and offering it to the Sangha can support the ghosts to be born in a good place in heavens. Colophon: Folio 25 on the verso side: Sangkatrasa (CS) 1253, a huang mao year, on the second day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a ka sai day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). The initiator, Sathu (Princess) Buasi and all her children, grandchildren and ralatvies jointly had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Nipphannasut (Nibbāna Sutta) to support the Teachings of the Buddha. May oue desires and wishes come true. Amen, amen! Nirvana is the greatest bliss, constantly and certainly.
