On one occasion while residing at the Jetavana monastery, the Buddha gave advice to King Pasenadi Kosala who was being addicted to his royal position and preoccupied in the sensual pleasures and forgot the support to Buddhism. The Buddha related the story of his previous existence to the king. Once upon a time, the Bodhisatta was born as the son of King Phommathat (Brahmadata) of Varanasi, named Janasanda Kumara. When he grew up, he went to study in Taxila. After having finished his studies, he was appointed as the viceroy by his father. Later on, after the death of his father, the Bodhisatta became successor to his father as the king of the kingdom. From then on, the Bodhisatta followed the royal virtues and led the people in giving alms, observing the precepts, listening to the Dhamma and practicing meditation. Thus he was respected by the people. Colophon: Folio 24 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2480, a moeng pao year, the eighth day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the first day of the week (Sunday), the writing was accomplished at noon.
