The volume contains letters sent between the Secretary of State office, the colonial administration, and the governor of the colony of Sierra Leone. The volume also contains an index organised alphabetically according to the name of the recipient with the subject of the letters,date and page number in the volume. Letters written in 1881 are numbered from 528 to 555, 1 to 497 for those written in 1882, 1 to 596 in 1883, and 1 to 251 in 1884.
