This volume contains letters written by J. C. E. Parkes, the Superintendent of the Department of Native Affairs, to local rulers in Sherbro and Port Loko among other areas. The letters concern the relationships between British officials and local rulers, some of them Muslims. Letters are also addressed to colonial officials in Sierra Leone such as the inspector general of police of the officer in charge of detachment.
