Aims and objectives
This project was formed preserve the archive of the Palestinian city of Hebron, which was collected from the city's houses and contains photos, documents, books, diaries and correspondence from 1740 to 1990 that have not been collected or published until now It's worth noting that until now, no single cultural organization or institution has done this work, resulting in the absence of a database for the city. Our database will protect this history from being neglected or forgotten. The project will collect the oral testimonies of the elderly who lived through these different eras of the city, as well as documents, and photos.
Outcomes
During the project, we visited about 30 households and photographed more than 250 materials from the years 1740-1990 and acquired 10 handwritten manuscripts from the fields of philosophy, mysticism and mathematics dating back to 1890. We also collected a huge volume of more than 300 handwritten pages on Shafiite jurisprudence from 1895. In addition, we recorded more than 30 interviews on the history of the city in the last 200 years, and the materials are processed through archiving and classification. We are keeping 3 copies of these materials online and on external hard drives.
This project was very well received in the city of Hebron and in Palestine in general, because it dealt primarily with the families' archives on its own initiative and on a voluntary basis, and because our work has helped to emphasise the richness and importance of this part of the historiography.
The following survey was submitted as part of the project's outputs:
