Digitisation of the Manuscripts and Documents relating to Kazi Nazrul Islam in the Churulia Museum's collection of Kazi Nazrul University (EAP1612)

Aims and objectives

EAP1612 will digitise a significant collection of thirteen exercise books filled with manuscripts of poems, songs and drama written by Kazi Nazrul Islam as well as his other personal material, such as photographs, postcards, greetings cards, letters, accounts of his family's daily fare and a handwritten Qur’an. Dating from 1920 to 1950, these treasures were originally in the possession of the poet's own family in India until they were later entrusted to the Nazrul Academy, a nonprofit organisation in Churulia, following his passing in 1976. In 2021, the Nazrul Academy was officially dissolved and the entire collection found a new home at the Kazi Nazrul University. Despite their resilience, these materials are on the brink of irreversible decay, a tragic fate for works of such cultural significance, and are in urgent need of preservation and digitisation.
