The story of Novice Sukha. Once there was a poor wood-cutter named Bhattabhatika in Savatthi. He worked for hire in the house of Gandha, the rich man for three years. When he received the money for his work, he thought to spend it for him. One day, he met a certain paccekabuddha arose from a state of meditation which had lasted fseven days. Bhattabhatika offered rice to the paccekabuddha and said to him, “Reverend Sir, may happiness alone be my portion from now on in the various places where I shall be reborn. Grant that I may be a partaker of the same truth which you have seen.” After the death, he was reborn in the family who were supporters of Venerable Sariputta, named Sukha. When he was seven years old, he was ordained as a novice by the Venerable. With serious practice, not long Novice Sukha attained arahatship.
