The story of Gandha rich man. Once there was the son of a rich man, named Gandha in Savatthi. After the death of his father, he inherited his father’s wealth. Later he was known as Gandha rich man. At the time, the rich man’s treasury opened the storage room, carried it out and said, “Sir, this wealth of your father is about as much as this, of your ancestors as much as this”. The rich man looked at the wealth and said, “Whay then, did those ancestors not take this wealth with them? The treasury replied, Sir, no one can take the wealth with him. Indeed, all beings take away only the merit that they have done.” The rich man thought, “Those ancestors have accumulated wealth and left because of their foolishness. For me, I will take it with me.” Gandha, the rich man when he thought like that, did not think, “I will give alms or I will offer sacrifices,” but thought, “I will consume all these wealth.”.
