ຕໍານານພະບາງ ກ່າວເຖິງ ປະຫວັດສາດລາວ ເມື່ອເຈົ້າງຸ່ມປະສູດອອກມາແລ້ວ ມີແຂ້ວ ໓໓ ເຫຼັ້ມ ຖືກກ່າວຫາວ່າເປັນຄົນເຂັດ ຄົນຂວງແລະຖືກເອົາໃສ່ແພໄຫລນໍ້າໄປຮອດປະເທດກໍາປູເຈຍ. ພະມະຫາສະມັນຕະເຖລະກໍໄດ້ເກັບເອົາມາລ້ຽງ. ຕໍ່ມາ ພະຍາອິນທະປັດຖະນະຄອນ ໄດ້ມອບພະທິດາ ຊື່ວ່າ ນາງແກ້ວລອດຟ້າ (ນາງເທບພະຣັດຕະນະວິຊິຕະມະຫິທິປະຕິຣາດ) ໃຫ້ເປັນເມຍ ແລະສົ່ງເຈົ້າຟ້າງຸຸ່ມພ້ອມດ້ວຍນາງແກ້ວລອດຟ້າປົກຄອງເມືອງຊຽງດົງຊຽງທອງ. ຕໍ່ມາພະນາງແກ້ວລອດຟ້າ ໄດ້ທູນໃຫ້ພະເຈົ້າຟ້າງຸ່ມໄປຂໍເອົາພະພຸດທະສາໜານິກາຍເຖລະວາດຈາກນະຄອນຫຼວງ. ພະຍາອິນທະປັດຖະ ໄດ້ມອບພະພຸດທລາວັນຫຼືພະບາງພ້ອມດ້ວຍພະໄຕປິດົກແລະພະສົງຈໍາ ໒໐ ອົງ ມີພະມະຫາປາສະມັນຕະເຖລະເປັນຫົວໜ້າມາຍັງເມືອງຊຽງດົງຊຽງທອງ. ຄໍາລົງທ້າຍ: ລານທີ ໓໖ ໜ້າ ໑: ສີສຸມັງຄະລະສັງກາດຣາຊະໄດ້ ໑໒໙໒ ຕົວ ປີກົດສະງ້າ ເດືອນ ໓ ຂຶ້ນ ໓ ຄໍ່າ ພໍ່າວ່າໄດ້ ວັນ ໔ ຣິດຈະນາແລ້ວຍາມກອງງາຍ ໝາຍມີ ຈານອ້ວນ ສາວທີ ເປັນເຈົ້າລານ ຣັດຕະນະປັນຍາເປັນຜູ້ຣິດຈະນາ ຈິ່ງໄດ້ສ້າງ ພື້ນພະແກ້ວ ພະບາງ ໄວ້ກັບສາສະໜາພະພຸດທະເຈົ້າ ຕາບຕໍ່ເທົ້າ ໕໐໐໐ ວັດສາ. ຂໍຜົນອັນນີ້ເປັນປັດໄຈຍະແກ່ພະນີພານຕັດບ່ວງເບັນຈະມານຂາດໄດ້ ຈົ່ງລຸພະນີພານດັ່ງຄໍາໝາຍແດ່ກໍ່ຂ້າເທີ້ນ ອະຣະຫັນຕິ ໂຫມິ ນິບພານະ ປັດຈະໂຍ ໂຫນຕຸ ໂນ ນິດຈັງ ທຸວັງ.
Tamnan Pha Bang or the legend of Pha Bang Buddha tells the history of Laos. When King Fa Ngum was born, he came with his 33 teeth. Thus, he was accused as an evil man for the kingdom. He was set on a raft and floated on the Mekong River until reached Cambodia. Venerable Mahapasaman nourished him. Later, King of Inthapattha gave him his daughter named Princess Kaeo Lotfa (or Princess Theppharattana Vijita Mahithipatirat) as his wife and sent them to rule Xiang Dong Xiang Thong kingdom. Queen Kaeo Lotfa asked her husband to bring Theravada Buddhism from Inthapattha kingdom to their new kingdom. The king of Inthapattha sent Pha Bang Buddha along with the manuscripts of Tipitaka and twenty senior monks with Venerable Maha Pasaman Thera as head of the group to Xiang Dong Xiang Thong. Colophon: Folio 36 on the recto side: Sisumangkhala Sangkatrasa (CS) 1292, a kot sanga year, on the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Chan Uan and Sao Thi sponsored the palm leaves. Rattanapannya is the scribe. They together sponsored the making of this manuscript entitled Phün Pha Kaeo and Pha Bang (Legend of the Emeral Buddha and Pha Bang Buddha) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May the results of this merit be a condition for Nirvana and cut the five obstructions off and reach Nirvana as my wishes. Arahanto homi nibbāna paccayo honto no niccaṃ dhuvaṃ paramaṃ sukhaṃ (May I obtain Arahantship. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana, constantly and certainly).
