The merit derived from offering Khao Sangabhatta or Khao Salak (ticket-food: food to be distributed by tickets) to monks or the Sangha. The story is that while the Buddha was dwelling in the Jetavanna Monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha delivered a sermon to a king who offered monks offerings and khao salak. The Buddha related the merit which derived from offering khao salak that those who offered khao salak to monks would be the reach of the three states of happiness with Niravana as the ultimate. Colophon: Folio 9 on the recto side: Buddha buarabat Chunlasangkat 2 thousand 2 hundred (corresponding with CS 1202), a kot chai year, the ninth day of the waning moon of the fourth lunar month, the third day of the week (Tuesday). [The writing was accomplished] at the time of the kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Saen Khammungkhun and his wife and children jointly sponsored the making of this manuscript for the Teachings of the Buddha. May the results of this merit support my previous parents.
