Vishwamitra started off as a nationalist Hindi daily from Kolkata in 1916 and became a monthly from October 1932. Its robust run continued well after Indian Independence. Vishwamitra departed from the practice of reproducing material from English, and encouraged well rounded news coverage of social reform, politics, and economics, and of course carried literature. This Sub-series comprises 7 issues of Vishwamitra from the year 1940. They include articles on warfare technologies, science and modern warfare, internationalism, and language politics in India, and the Hindi Sahitya Sammelan. Some of the themes covered in the section on women in each issue includes education, participation in the Indian movement for independence, marriage and dowry. Also contains articles on psychology, criminology and forensics, astronomy. The October issue is a special issue on War and features articles on themes like propaganda, censorship, spies, and cartoons and photographs from the Second World War.
