Board to ACM and Other Correspondence

This file contains letters from the secretaries of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions (ABCFM) and the Women's Board of Missions to missionaries and secretaries of the American Ceylon Mission (ACM). The primary receipents are Rev. Dr. Thomas B. Scott in Manipay, Jaffna, Rev. Giles G. Brown (1869-1920), secretary of the ACM in Vaddukoddai, and Rev. William E. Hitchcock, secretary of the ACM in Uddupiddy. The primary authors are James L. Barton (1855-1936), secretary of the ABCFM, and Enoch Bell, associate secretary of the ABCFM, and Kate G. Lamson, foreign secretary of the Woman's Board of Missions. The file consists primarily of copies of typed letters, but includes several handwritten missives by Hastings and S.G.C. Mills. Some topics include missionary salaries, appeals for funding, qualifications of incoming mission workers (including Minnie Hastings), the publication of a new missionary handbook, requests for photographs of misionnaries, and inquiries into the relationship between Jaffna College and the ACM.
