4 months after the passing away of the Buddha, Venerable Maha Kassapa Thera was the chairperson of organizing the Buddhist Council in Rajagaha. There were 500 noble ones who were expert in the Tipitaka, Venerable Ananda Thera was 500th one, attended. The Council was sponsored by King Ajatasattu and spent 7 months to completion. It is called the First Council.
