The Phal chen, or Buddha Avatamsaka collection, contains sutras that delve into key Mahayana themes, including cosmology, philosophy, and the ethics of the Bodhisattva path. Presented in six volumes, the collection follows the traditional poti format, with each volume meticulously inscribed in uchen script using black ink on cream-colored Bhutanese handmade paper. The first page of each volume is particularly exquisite, written in gold ink on dark blue paper, with two miniature depictions of the Buddha gracefully adorning the margins, showcasing the artistry and devotion involved in its creation. Preserved as a sacred relic, the Phal chen collection occupies a place of honor on the traditional bookshelves within the temple. Each volume is carefully wrapped in multiple layers of cloth and shielded by two wooden boards, securely fastened with a belt. This thoughtful preservation ensures the collection’s protection while underscoring the reverence it commands as a spiritual treasure, safeguarding its legacy for future generations.
Extent: 6 volumes of manuscripts.
