this little book is the result of studies made in the Sudan between the years 1915 and 1925. this book prove a useful companion to the new List of Flora, supplying illustrations for some at least of the many names in its pages. On all journeys that the author went he drew as many plants as I could, usually during the mid-day halt, in pencil with a wash of paint. The plants, brought back to Khartoum, were identified at the Government Herbarium by Mr. Massey and in all doubtful cases referred to Mr. Hutchinson at Kew. The sketches were subsequently re-drawn in ink at home after careful comparison with dried specimens of my own or at Kew wherever.
