In the Buddha’s time, there was a poorhusband and wife who had one daughter named Upāsikā. When she grew up to be a girl, she saw her friends wearing beautiful dresses with gold patterns. She would like to have too, but her parents were poor. So she left her parents to work in a rich man's house for 3 years. The rich man gave her a piece of cloth with gold patterns. When she got it, she was very happy. One day, she went to the river to bathe. She met amonk wearing a loose cloth. She cut her cloth into two pieces and offered one piece to the monk. The monk did congratulation and left. With the rewards of offering the piece of cloth, after death, she was born in Tavatimsa heaven and lived for 1,000 years. Thereafter, she was born in the human world as the daughter of a rich man, Sirivaddana, with wealth of 80 koti in the city of Arithapura.
