Temiya Jataka is the first story of the Ten Existences. In the Temiya Jataka, the Bodhisattva performed Nekkhamma that is renunciation. The Temiya Jataka tells the Bodhisattva was encouraged by Indra to be born as the son of King Kasikarat of Varanasi, named Temiya Kumara or Teme. When he was eleven months old, he saw his father severely punishing the thief. He remembered that he was once a king, reigning for 20 years. After death, he had to be born in hell for eighty thousand years before he was born in Tāvatiṃsa heaven. He was afraid that he would succeed his father as king and punish those who did wrong and then go to hell again. Therefore, he pretended to be lame, deaf, and dumb, causing him to be accused of being kalakini (unfortunate). At the age of 16, he was about to be buried alive. Whihe he was being buried in a cemetery. Therefore, he showed himself that he was not lame and dumb. Later, he was ordained as an ascetic and observed the precepts in the forest. When his father, his mother, and the people knew, they followed him. After listening to his Dhamma preaching, they were faithful in him and asked to be ordained as well. After his death, he was reborn in the Brahma world. Colophon: Folios 25 and 26 on the recto side with the same text: Maha Sangkatrasa (CS) 1256, a kap sanga year, on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the sixth day of the week (Friday), a hwai set day, the writing of this manuscript was accomplished at the time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Phia Homsombat and his wife together with all their parents and children had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Lam 10 Sat on Temiya Kumman (Preaching of the ten existences on Temiya), containing six fascicle, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years.
