The story of the Buddha’s previous existence when the Bodhisatta was born as a boy named Kampha Kadam (the black orphan like crow). Once, King Acikaraja ruled the city of Phommadatta. He had two queens named Candadevi and Sanga. They lived together for many years but without any children to inherit their clan. The king told his two wives to observe the precepts and pray for a child from devas. Later Indra sent a deva to the womb of Candadevi. When she became pregnant, she was slandered by Sangka and accused of adultery, so she was expelled from the city by the king. When she gave birth to her son, the child had black skin like crow. Thus, this caused the great embarrassment to her. So she carried her son to the Ganga River and floated away. The raft led the child to get stranded on a beach. At that time, a couple of two garden guards found the baby and took care of him as their son. Because the child had a black skin, the gardener and his wife gave him the name of Ai Kampha Kadam. Colophon: Folio 20 on the recto side: Buddhist Era (BE) 2514, a tao chai year, the twelfth day of the waxing moon of the twelfth lunar month, a hap hao day, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Sathu Phò (Monk) Vandi from the village of Pak Saeng, who lived in Vat That Luang for the Buddhist Lent, had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Kamphakadam to support the Teachings of Gotama Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May I enter Nibbāna. May this be a condition for us to reach Nibbāna. Amen, amen! Chan (ex-monk) Kaeo is the scribe.
