While residing at the Jetavana Monastery in Savatthi, the Buddha spoke about a peta (hungry ghost) named Pesakara who had ever been a weaver’s wife. When she was a human being, she was stingy. She scolded at her husband while offering food and robes to monks. After death, the husband was born as a deity living nearby a main road, and the wife was born as a ghost living nearby him. She was living without food and clothes and being burned and painful. When she asked for food and clothes from the deity, the food became excrement and the clothes became hot metal sheets. Colophon: Folio 21 on the recto side: Chunlasangkat 13 hundred and 6 (corresponding with CS 1306), a kap san year, the twelfth day of the waxing moon of the tenth lunar month, the fourth day of the week (Wednesday), the writing was accomplished at time of kòng ngai (between 7.30–9.00 o’clock). Sao (Miss) Muai had the most ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript entitled Maha vibak to dedicate to Mae Nyai Thitnang or Sao Tip who already passed away to the other world. May the results of this gift reach her. The gift includes an iron flag with height of a man, a sand flag with height of a man, a donation tree, and this manuscript, and also many small sand stupas equaling the number of her age. Even if she has been stuck in misery, move her to a good place. If she has already been in a good place, support her more better than ever. May I be free from all sufferings, sadness, and diseases. May my eyes be visible. Nibbāna is the greatest bliss. Phothipannya is the scribe, I rejoice.
