Vinaya tells about upajjhaya vatta and acariya vatta. In the early Buddha’s time, there were no preceptors who taught the monks about the proper way of maners. Thus the monks dressed their robes disorderly and had behaviours unproperly. So they were blamed by people. Later then, the Buddha prescribed the rules of upajjhaya vatta that is the traditions or practices that a disciple shoult act toward his preceptor, and acariya vatta is the duties that a pupil should practiced toward his teacher.
