Jujaka the fifth episode with 79 verses in a total of 13 episodes of the Vessantara Jataka. Jujaka the old Brahmin lived in Kalinga city. He wandered for begging. When he got money he left it with his friend. When Jujaka was away for long, then his friend spent the money all. Later, Jujaka came back and asked for his money. His friend did not have money to pay off debt; he gave him his young daughter named Amittata instead. Juajaka took Amittata to his home. Amittata was condemned by wives of other Brahmins as having the old husband. So, she appealed Jujaka to beg the two children from Vessantara as her servants. Jujaka therefore travelled to Mount Vamka. Colophon: Folio 17 on the recto side: Chunlasangkatrasa (CS) 1292, a hwai sanga year, on the sixth day of the waxing moon of the ninth lunar month, the fifth day of the week (Thursday), a hap sai day, the writing was accomplished at the time of kòng laeng (between 13.30–15.00 o’clock). Chao Phanya Maha Somdet Sisavang Vong and his first wife Queen Khamfan jointly had the religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript-bundle entitled Vohān Vetsantara (Vessantara in phrase) to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May all our desires and wishes with Nirvana as the ultimate goal, come true. May the results of this merit support Thu Nyai Thangthai (mean Queen Kham Ouan, King Sisavang Vong’s 1st wife), who already died to the other world. May she reach the states of happiness. If she has been in a good place, may this merit reach her. May this be a condition for us to reach Nirvana.
