The Story of Uggasena. Uggasena, the young son of a rich man in Rajagaha. One day, while watching the show of a wandering theatrical troupe consisting of five hundred dancers, he saw a young dancer who was so beautiful. Uggasena fell desperately in love with this dancer at the first sign. He later married the young dancer and followed the troupe. One day, the Buddha saw Uggasena in his vision and knew that time was ripe for Uggasena to attain arahatship. The Buddha then went to Uggasena and addressed him, "Uggasena, a wise man should abandon all attachment to the khandha aggregates and strive to gain liberation from the round of rebirths." Colophon: Folio 26 on the recto side: Sangkat thousand hundred 96 (corresponding with CS 1196), a kap sanga year, the third day of the waxing moon of the third lunar month, the seventh day of the week (Saturday), the writing was accomplished at the time of thiang vang (between 10.30-12.00 o’clock). Sathu Maha Phutthavongsa Viriyapannya from Vat Phonsaiyaramathipadi had the ardent religious faith to sponsor the making of this manuscript [entitled] Thammabot, to support the Teachings of the Buddha to last until the end of 5000 years. May my wishes and desires come true. May this be a condition to reach Nibbāna.
